[ Chillida, Eduardo ] Racine, Charles. Le Sujet est la Clairière de son Corps. [ Paris ] : Maeght Editeur. 1975.
This volume features poems in French by the Swiss poet Charles Racine (1927 – 1995). Dated from 1953 to 1967, the poems are accompanied by abstract illustrations by sculptor Eduardo Chillida. For this edition, Chillida created a suite of four black-and-white hors texte aquatint etchings printed by Atelier Morsang that exhibit Chillida’s architectural approach to scuplture and drawing. They feature forms that explore the interplay of positive and negative space and display the artist’s characteristic sense of balance and rhythm.
This book was printed in 18 pt. Bodoni by Robert Blanchet on Auvergne handmade paper with deckled edges from Richard de Bas papermill. Loose-as-issued with a paper wrapper, it is protected by a chemise covered in black cloth. The book and chemise fit into a slipcase covered in beige cloth.
This edition on Auvergne paper was limited to a total of 120 copies. This is copy number 39. It is signed by the author and the artist. The first print in the book is also signed by the artist.
