The Arion Press in San Francisco is doubtless the most established fine press operating in the United States today. With about one hundred titles published since its founding in 1976 by Andrew Hoyem, the work of the Arion Press spans the genres of fine press books, displaying fine typographical interpretation and design, and livres d’artistes, made in the French tradition of collaboration among the publisher, author, and artist. It has worked with major authors such as Seamus Heany and Richard Brautigan, and with major artists such as John Baldesarri, Mel Bochner, Jim Dine, Sol LeWitt, Robert Motherwell, and Martin Puryear.
